First Meeting: Sept 15, 2007
  For "Mobile Banking Initiatives" with focus on rural areas
a Workshop was held at IDRBT, Hyderabad. The objective was to examine various solutions available or likely to be available in this area and make an assessment of the status of their deployment and affordability for masses.
 
Second Meeting: Feb 16, 2008
  For further strengthening the process of deploying mobile payment services in India, the second meeting was held at IIT Madras, Chennai.
 
Third Meeting: June 7,2008
  The third meeting of Mobile Payment Forum of India is to take place at the Vodafone premises, Mumbai. Leading banks, telecom operators, service providers and academia are to be the part of the meeting.
 
Fourth Meeting
The fourth meeting was held on August 22, 2008 at Royal Orchid Resort, Bangalore.
   
Mobile Payment Forum : A joint initiative by RTBI and IDRBT
  India, like many emerging market countries today, is in the center of mobile phone explosion in growth. Through some directives, an expanding economy and vast potential market, India has about 200 million mobile subscribers and is adding 5 million a month. There are many initiatives perceived in the use of mobile phones for banking applications. For this new delivery channel to commence and be useful to masses, it is worthwhile to examine various components of its interface with payment systems, technology, security, regulatory aspects and functionality.

In this context, a forum is being formed jointly by the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and Rural Technology Business Incubator (RTBI) of IIT Madras with a mission to enable mobile payments in India with secure and low cost transaction.
